Brief Introduction of Jiuwan Stream

Jiuwan Stream Drifting Adventure Tourist Area is located on the west bank of Xiling Gorge, western new Zigui county. 20 kilometers from Three Gorges Dam. It is the first tourist scenic area of Three Gorges Dam which merges exploration, entertainment and sightseeing. Jiuwan Stream once was the place where the patriotic poet Qu Yuan gave his lecture. The Tourist Area is famous for its unique mountains, clear water, steep cliffs, peculiar rocks, and precious flowers.

Drifting on Jiuwan Stream

Jiuwan Stream is a National Drifting Training Base admitted by the State Physical Culture Administration and it is also regarded as the First Drifting Place of China. The drifting watercourse consists of two sections: the upper section and the lower section, a total length of 13.2 kilometers. The upper section is 6.4 kilometers long, the altitude difference is about 100 meters. While drifting on the rapids you can enjoy the towering cliffs. The lower section is 6.8 kilometers long belonging to the still water drifting and the water depth is 70 - 80 meters.

There are 48 mountain peaks, each one has its own feature, more than 100 kinds of vegetation. Drifting on the stream, you can appreciate the primeval forest trees, herbs and precious beasts; experience the grandeur of Jiuwan Power Plant and Jiuwan Bridge; explore the 800 meters earth ravine, mysterious ancient suspending coffins and the culture of ancient Ba and Chu states.

Jiuwan Stream after the Impoundment of Three Gorges Reservior

After the water reservation of the Three Gorges Dam, the water level rose. Jiuwan Stream, Kongling Gorge, Ox Liver and Horse Lung Gorge as well as Military Books and Precious Sword Gorge became an integration. The majestic of Qutang Gorge, the elegance of Wu Gorge and the arduous of Xiling Gorge were all gathered in one gorge which reproduced the ancient beauty of Three Gorges.
